Review: Fentimans Mixers 500ml

I've been testing out Fentimans new 500ml size mixers* (£1.80 from Waitrose) which are perfect for sharing. I've found that you get 4 or 5 drinks per bottle. See my thoughts on their Sparkling Lime & Jasmine* HERE.

Their Naturally Light Tonic Water* is botanically brewed and made with 30% fewer calories than the normal version and makes a delicious G&T! The Premium Indian Tonic Water* is blended with herbal infusions and lemongrass extract which makes for a unique and refreshing G&T.

Pink Grapefruit Tonic Water* is made with ruby red grapefruit which makes a delicious tart, zesty and slightly sweet tonic. Perfect mixed with your favourite gin or vodka. I love this one!

Rose Lemonade* is an all-time favourite of mine which is made with lemons and pure rose otto oil. Deliciously floral it's perfect on it's own or mixed with gin, vodka or bourbon. Ginger Beer with muddled Lime* has a firey kick. It's made with aromatic ginger and natural botanicals. Serve with vodka and a wedge of lime for the perfect Moscow Mule cocktail.

What's your favourite Fentimans mixer?

November Books

Here's what I've been reading in November:

Dark Water by Robert Bryndza (Detective Erika Foster #3)* - Erika Foster is now based at Bromley Police Station in the Projects Team. They are investigating a major narcotics case and they receive a tip off that drugs will be found at a disused quarry nearby.

The team discover the drugs and the skeleton of a young girl. Erika is determined to be allowed to lead on the murder case and hand picks her team bringing back friends from her previous station.

It is quickly uncovered that the body is that of Jessica Collins who went missing 26 years ago. The original detective on the unsolved case wants to help Erika and does so with tragic consequences.  Erika looks into the Collins family history and discovers more than she bargained for.

A fast paced story which I couldn't put down. Roll on the next in the series!

Blood Lines DI Kim Stone #5 by Angela Marsons* -  A middle class woman is found in her car, dead with a single stab wound. It is initially thought it was a robbery gone wrong but nothing has been stolen. When a second victim is found they know that the cases must be linked.

Kim and her team need to find the murderer as quickly as possible..Fast paced and thrilling I found the book hard to put down. Highly recommend.

The Bird Tribunal by Agnes Ravatn - TV Presenter Allis Hagtorn is involved in a scandal and leaves her partner, her job and her life to take a job as housekeeper/gardener to Sigurd Bagge, a moody silent man who lives in an isolated cottage. His wife is away and he's unsure when she'll be back.

I found the characters slightly strange but found the book a compulsive and un-put-downable read which was tense, chilling and gripping. It has an ending I didn't see coming and I'm still thinking about the book long after I finished it. Would recommend.

Crash Land by Doug Johnstone* - Finn Sullivan is leaving Orkney after a visit to his grandmother Ingrid. He's returning to Dundee and his girlfriend Amy.

At Kirkwall Airport in the departures lounge he intervenes when an oil man starts harassing a beautiful older woman. Maddie Pierce is running away from something or someone and Finn is captivated by her. They while away the time waiting for the fog to lift and to be able to board over a few G&Ts.

The oil worker tries again and Finn sees red and gets into a mid-air fight. The plane is turned around much to Maddie's dismay. The aftermath of the crash is fast paced with many twists and turns. I really enjoyed the story set against a backdrop of Orkney. Would recommend.

Reunions by Chris Porsz with words by Jo Riley - this is an absolutely fascinating book. Chris took photos of people in Peterborough in the 70s, 80s, and 90s. He decided to track them down and of those he could he took a photo of them in the present day in the same spot (where possible) the original photo was taken. An absolutely stunning book. Highly recommend.

November: Lately I've been Loving

The arrival of my Liberty Beauty Advent Calendar. I had lots of stresses regarding delivery and customer services weren't the best.  It is lovely but it will be my one and only online order from Liberty. The calendar itself is beautiful and the contents super luxe. Roll on 1st December!

My Love Me Beauty picks from The #Nightfall Edit included a second Kat Von D lipstick mini (1.2g). I absolutely love the shade magick - so wearable! My other picks were two Caudalie Hand Creams (each 30ml) and Merumaya Melting Cleansing Balm (25ml). I also adore that make up bag it's so cute!

Get £21 worth of credit if you use my code SANDR174.

My gin baubles arrived from Pickering's Gin each one is filled with 50ml of gin! Can't wait until I get my Christmas tree! (if they last that long!)

I swithered about getting the recent Cult Goody Bag - buying 3 Christmas presents softened the blow a bit! As ever the goody bag is jam packed full of beautiful things to try.

This book called Reunions by Chris Porsz is one of the most amazing things! He took photos in the 70s, 80s, and 90s in Peterborough and revisits the locations and people and takes the photo again in the current day. It's a must read. Every picture really does tell a story..pick yours up HERE.

I won tickets on a twitter competition to Edinburgh Foodies Festival - thanks again My Little Black Book! We had a great time sampling delicious food and drinks - some things which caught my eye (and tastebuds) - Narcissus FlowersLoch Ness GinMademoiselle Macaron (the rose ones are my favourite!) and Aelder Elixir. Roll on the summer one!

I've been testing out two new perfumes* from Ancienne Ambiance which are absolutely gorgeous - Colonia IX EdP which is a woody oriental and Colonia VIII EdP which is sweet/woody. Expect a full review shortly - I absolutely love both of them.

SAMAYA: Kapha Anti-Ageing Treatment Oil

I'm a huge, huge fan of the beautiful SAMAYA brand having absolutely adored their Kapha Anti-Ageing Cream* which I tried recently. See my review HERE (it's one of my favourite new tries this year!)

The anti-ageing treatment oil (30ml - £79)* which while not cheap is one of the nicest oils I've used for ages. Made with a concentrated blend of Ayurvedic botanicals and clinically proven active anti-ageing ingredients the oil targets ageing skin.

A blend of Ashwagahdha, Sandalwood, Vetivert and Frankincense give the oil it's uniquely beautiful scent which I enjoyed while using the anti-ageing cream. The oils absorbs quicky leaving the skin looking radiant and younger.

To use: apply a few drops to the skin after cleansing.

My sample pot of Pitta Hydrating Cleanser* was also really enjoyed. The whole range is just fabulous. This nourishing cleanser is made with Ayurvedic botanicals such as Jasmine, Neem, Lotus, Turmeric, Saffron, Shatavari and Gota Kola. The cleanser melts easily onto the skin, removing make up and impurities and leaving the skin feeling hydrated, fresh and clean.

Simply love this beautiful brand. Find out what your dosha is HERE.

Fairfield Gardens: Raspberry Rose Lip Balm

Latest launch from Fairfield Gardens is the very luscious Raspberry Rose Lip Balm 4.25g (£3.98)*. See my thoughts on their Spearmint & Fennel and Rosemary & Lemon Balm Lip Balms HERE.

The balms are scented with natural aromas and pure essential oils along with organic Beeswax, plant oils and botanical extracts. 80% of ingredients are grown or manufactured in the UK, the lip balms are suitable for vegetarians, cruelty free and eco-friendly. They are made by Lillian, a small British business owner. #buylocal

Raspberry Rose Lip Balm* is sweetly fruity with a hint of floral and is a lovely combination. Raspberry seed oil is high in antioxidant Vitamin A & E and packed full of Essential Fatty Acids which nourish, hydrate and care for the lips.

Also available is Lip Balm Trio Gift Set (3 x 4.25g) - £10.49 which contains Orange, Rosemary & Lemon Balm and Spearmint & Fennel. This would make a great small gift or stocking filler. See more details HERE.

Bloom Perfumery: Yearly Sample Pack: November 2016: Exploring Cashmeran

My November Bloom Perfumery Sample Pack arrived the other day. This month the theme is Exploring Cashmeran.

"Cashmeran is a slightly unusual but incredibly distinctive ingredient that is widely used in perfumery - both for the way it smells and they way it exalts and affects a blend. Also called musk indanone, Cashmeran is a lot of the time referred to as blond woods by perfumers because it has a very velvetine and rich quality to it; but it also smells sharp, woody and clean. It's essentially a spicy musky woody note".

Grossmith Floral Veil EdP (50ml - £170, 1ml - £5) with top notes of cassis, green leaves and lemon, a heart of geranium, rose, tuberose, vanilla and ylang ylang with a base of amber, cashmeran and musk.

Praline de Santal by Parfumerie Generale EdP (100ml - £117.50, 50ml - £81.50, 1ml - £2) the cashmeran helps the hazelnut to sit at the top of the scent. With top notes of hazelnut, a heart of cedar and heliotrope with a base of cashmeran, musk and sandalwood.

Angela Ciampagna Ducalis EdP (100ml - £160, 50ml - £95, 1ml - £5) which is one of my favourites from this month's selection. It has top notes of nutmeg, geranium and salt accord, a heart of rose, may-lily, cyclamen, ylang ylang, acacia and cedarwood with a base of sandalwood, rosewood, leather, amber, musk and vanilla.

Parfumerie Generale's PG10.1 Bouquet Massai EdP (100ml - £117.50, 50ml - £81.50, 1ml - £2) cashmeran helps the floral notes fuse with the gourmand-ish fruitier notes. With notes of peony, magnolia, karo karounde, coffee, cashmeran, sandalwood, tolu balm and fruity notes. I like this one too.

From Olfactive Studio we have Lumiere Blanche EdP (100ml - £108, 50ml - £74, 1ml - £2) which is gorgeous! With woody notes and spices. With top notes of cardamon, cinnamon and star anise, a heart of almond, cashmere musks and iris with a base of cedar, sandalwood, tonka beans and white musk it cocoons and comforts. Love this one.

The final perfume this month is Just Landed: Arquiste ELLA EdP (100ml - £135, 1ml - £2) which is floral, leather and spicy. With notes of cannon ball tree flower, angelica root, carrot seed, Turkish rose, jasmine absolute, cardamon absolute, black buckwheat honey, ambergris, patchouli, civet, vetiver, cigarette smoke and chypre accord. This is a very heady scent which is growing on me!

What do you think of this month's picks?

Evolve Organic Beauty: Liquid Crystal 2-in-1 Micellic Cleanser

I've been testing out Evolve Organic Beauty's Liquid Crystal 2-in-1 Micellic Cleanser (30ml - £7)* and it's absolutely fantastic!

The products are hand made in small batches using natural and organic oils, butters and natural superfoods. Products are Vegan and packaging recyclable. See my thoughts on their Satin Leg Gloss & Hyaluronic Serum 200 HERE and their Tropical Blossom Body Butter, Body Polish and Gentle Cleansing Melt HERE.

Latest launch Liquid Crystal 2-in-1 Micellic Cleanser* cleanses and tones the skin. It's suitable for all skin types and has a rosewater scent. Micellar encapsulated micro capsules lift and remove dirt and Hyaluronic Acid locks water back into the skin.

To use: apply to a cotton pad before wiping over the face and eyes (no sting or tightness!). I tend to use as a pre-cleanse or on non make up days.

I've been enjoying using the cleanser as it has a pleasant scent, cleans and removes impurities, doesn't sting the eyes and leaves the skin feeling comfortable, hydrated and clean. Love!

Live in the Light: Annmarie Skincare Samples

I recently tried some skincare trial sizes* by (then new to me) brand Annmarie Skincare which Sue from Live in the Light sent me - see my thoughts HERE.

Sue very kindly sent me some other samples from the range and I absolutely loved them!

Dead Sea Facial Scrub sample* (full size 50ml - £35.96) which has quite an intense lavender scent. The scrub detoxifies the skin, removing dead skin cells leaving the skin looking radiant and renewed. It has quite a scrubby texture but isn't harsh. To use: apply to damp skin massaging in upward movements before rinsing.

Coconut Honey Mask sample* (full size 50ml - £33.56) is a lush coconut scented balm which is enriched with pure Colorado mountain Wildflower honey. It nourishes and protects, soothing and plumping the skin. To use: apply to the skin and leave to work it's magic for 15 minutes or so before removing with a warm damp muslin cloth. Love!

Anti-Ageing Facial Serum sample* (full size 15ml - £46.16) has an aloe vera base and is suitable for all skin types. Hyaluonic acid hydrates and adds moisture while everlasting flowers soothe and refresh. To use: apply to clean skin before moisturiser.

Ogario London: Revive & Shine Shampoo & Conditioner & Styling Mist

I've been testing out Ogario London's Revive & Shine Shampoo (250ml - £16.50)* and the matching Conditioner (250ml - £18.50)* for the last few weeks. I'm a huge fan of the Hydrate & Shine duo* (review) and the Restore & Shine Hair Masque (review)*.

The hair care range was 4 years in the making and Salon clients gave real feedback both verbally and by the way their hair looked and felt.

These are Beauty Bible favourites and gently clean and hydrate the hair helping to make it more manageable and shiny looking. The Revive & Shine Shampoo* can be used everyday.

To use: work a small amount in the palm of your hand before massaging through damp hair. Follow with the matching conditioner or the masque.

The Revive & Shine Conditioner* smells gorgeous! It's a rich cream which contains natural actives hibiscus to nourish and horsetail to condition.

To use: pat excess water from hair with a towel before apply the conditioner to the hair concentrating on the ends. Leave a few minutes before rinsing.

NEW IN: Styling Mist for Natural Hold & Volume with Lemon Zest, Oats & Honey (60ml - £16)* I've only been using this mist for a short while but so far so good! It makes the hair feel more voluminous as well as helping to control frizz and static. Absolutely love! Expect a fuller review shortly.

What's your favourite Ogario London product?
